The Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary is an association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, have formed themselves into a Legion for service. The purpose of the Legion of Mary is to mirror Mary and its object is the glory of God.
Legion work includes visiting the sick, lonely and old in hospital or their home and visiting those in the parish who have not experienced the love of God in order to evangelise Christ’s message. Fr Gilmour or other sources in the parish pass names to Legion members. All visits are carried out with absolute respect for confidentiality and with Fr Gilmour’s agreement.
The Legion runs a free lending library of spiritual books once a month after Sunday Masses with the dates advertised in the newsletter and on the notice board.
Another aspect of Legion work is the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in the home, thereby consecrating homes to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Members of the Legion will visit your home with Fr Gilmour. The consecration prayers will be said together and Fr Gilmour will bless the house. At the moment the Legion has 10 active members as well as a number of auxiliary members to support the active members in prayer by the daily recitation of the Rosary in their homes. If anyone in the parish would like a visit, knows of anyone who would like a visit, or would like their homes consecrated to the Sacred Heart please contact the parish office, Fr Gilmour, or a member of the Legion of Mary.
The Legion meets every Tuesday morning in the Hall after 9.30am Mass. If you are interested in joining the Legion and sharing in the work that Mary calls for: that of bringing souls to her Son – then you would be most welcome to join. For more information please contact the Legion through the Parish Office, or simply come to one of the weekly meetings.
